Layers of Learning Unit 4-11 begins with the history of WWII. We include the Miracle at Dunkirk, Battle of Britain, Pearl Harbor, Bataan Peninsula, the home front, rationing, D-day, Battle of the Bulge, the Pacific Theater, the Holocaust, and more. Next, in geography learn about symbols and landmarks of the United States including the flag, the Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell, sights of the National Mall, the bald eagle, Uncle Sam, and more. Then in science, learn about the chemistry of air and water. We cover the composition of the air, that air is needed to burn, the weight of air, water as a solvent, polarity of water, freezing properties of water and more. Finally, in art learn about war art from famous paintings to poster propaganda and patriotism.

There is too much packed into each unit, too many things to do! When we used this one, my child decided to focus on the airplanes and even followed the links in this unit to create his own realistic paper fleet!
