Layers of Learning Unit 4-20 starts with terrorism in the modern world. We cover the definition of terrorism, places where terrorism is a problem in the world, the Gulf War, the War on Terror, 11 September 2001, civil liberties and safety, and bioterrorism. We also have explorations on positive things like looking for helpers, being a hero, and how to constructively combat terrorism. Next, in geography, we have some fun games and review projects all about the United States of America. In conservation learn about endangered species, conservation efforts, trash, recycling, sustainability, water conservation, threatened environments, stream health, air cleanliness, and acid rain. Finish up with projects that teach your kids to be fearlessly creative. We give ideas to get kids started thinking creatively in arts and sciences, but they do the mental work.
In each unit, you’ll find a recommended library list, important background information about each topic, and lots of activities to choose from for kids of all ages. Sidebars include a bunch more ideas including Additional Layers, Fabulous Facts, On The Web, Writer’s Workshop, Famous Folks, and Teaching Tips.
