Layers of Learning Unit 4-6 starts with the history of the expansion of the western United States. Learn about mountain men, pioneers, Plains Indians, the Apaches, and the wars with these people, then the gold rush of 1849. The Southwest includes studies of the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma. Next in science learn about the structure of the earth including detailed diagrams of the interior and an experiment to help understand how we know. You’ll also study how the structure of Earth affects things like precession, the magnetic field, and plate tectonics. Last, learn about Impressionist artists including Monet, Renoir, Sisley, Bazille, Pissaro, Manet, Cezanne, Morisot, Degas, and Cassatt.
In each unit you’ll find a recommended library list, important background information about each topic, and lots of activities to choose from for kids of all ages.
