Layers of Learning Unit 1-14 begins with Ancient African history. You’ll learn about the Bantu, Nok, Axum, and Kush people, and trade routes across the Sahara. Next, in geography, make maps of the physical and political characteristics of Africa, take a safari to learn about the animals and plants of the savanna and try some crafts from Africa. In science, you’ll learn about how elements bond, including shells and energy levels, ionic and covalent bonds, and Lewis Dot Diagrams. Finally, in the arts section, we include characteristics of African tales, how they were told, and what they were meant to do.
In each unit, you’ll find a recommended library list, important background information about each topic, and lots of activities to choose from for kids of all ages. Sidebars include a bunch more ideas including Additional Layers, Fabulous Facts, On The Web, Writer’s Workshop, Famous Folks, and Teaching Tips. Printable maps and worksheets are included with each unit and may be printed as often as needed for your family or class.
