Layers of Learning Unit 1-19 starts with the history of Christianity.  We cover the founding of Christianity by Jesus, the Mediterranean world map at the time of Jesus, some of the beliefs of Christians and teachings of Jesus, and what happened to the church after the death of Jesus.  Next in geography we’ll create maps and learn about the culture of Oceania and Australia.  Then in science, we study simple plants including ferns, mosses, and algae.  Last, in the arts section, we cover musical instruments.  Your kids will learn about instrument families, the sounds of individual instruments, orchestras, and instruments around the world.

In each unit, you’ll find a recommended library list, important background information about each topic, and lots of activities to choose from for kids of all ages.  Sidebars include a bunch more ideas including Additional Layers, Fabulous Facts, On The Web, Writer’s Workshop, Famous Folks, and Teaching Tips.  Printable maps and worksheets are included with each unit and may be printed as often as needed for your family or class.
