Layers of Learning Unit 2-10 begins with the history of three influential areas of Europe: the Duchy of Burgundy, Venice, and Spain.  We start with a map of 15th century Europe, then move to Venetian trade routes, Muslim Spain, and the Reconquista.  Next, study modern-day Switzerland and its culture.  Then learn about the nervous system and the brain.  Last, we introduce oil paints and Jan Van Eyck to you along with some hands-on lessons in oil painting.  You’ll find lots of activities for kids of all ages so your family can learn together, family-school style.

In each unit, you’ll find a recommended library list, important background information about each topic, and lots of activities to choose from for kids of all ages.  Sidebars include a bunch more ideas including Additional Layers, Fabulous Facts, On The Web, Writer’s Workshop, Famous Folks, and Teaching Tips.  Printable maps and worksheets are included with each unit and may be printed as often as needed for your family or class.
