Layers of Learning Unit 3-15 starts with the exploration of the south Pacific, Abel Tasman, and Captain Cook. Geography includes the countries of Australia and New Zealand. In science learn how fossils are formed, what kinds of things become fossils, geologic time scale, and how fossils are dated. Last in the arts learn about balance, emphasis, movement, pattern, proportion, rhythm, and unity in visual arts like painting.

In each unit you’ll find a recommended library list, important background information about each topic, and lots of activities to choose from for kids of all ages.  Sidebars include a bunch more ideas including Additional Layers, Fabulous Facts, On The Web, Writer’s Workshop, Famous Folks, and Teaching Tips.  Printable maps and worksheets are included with each unit and may be printed as often as needed for your family or class.

    We are loving this curriculum! My kids were interested in learning about Australia, so we started with this unit and one other unit in year 4 to try out LoL before beginning with Year 1 in late summer/early fall. So far we are really enjoying this unit, and love the changes it has helped us make to our homeschool day. Very excited to dig into Year 1 as I begin planning this summer!
