Layers of Learning Unit 1-16 includes hands-on learning activities. In history, you’ll learn about the ancient South American cultures of the Norte Chico, Chavin, Canari, Tiwanaku, Chibchas, and Amazon Basin. In geography, we make maps of South America, learn about their favorite sports and foods, and create a country lapbook. Then in science, we start off our botany units with plants. We’ll learn about plant cells, photosynthesis, parts of a plant, what plants need, and how plants do things like transportation. Finally, in the arts section, we’ll learn about pottery, burial cloths, architecture, and religious objects.
In each unit, you’ll find a recommended library list, important background information about each topic, and lots of activities to choose from for kids of all ages. Sidebars include a bunch more ideas including Additional Layers, Fabulous Facts, On The Web, Writer’s Workshop, Famous Folks, and Teaching Tips. Printable maps and worksheets are included with each unit and may be printed as often as needed for your family or class.
