Layers of Learning Unit 1-11 contains hands-on activities including crafts, games, experiments, writing projects, and more. We start with the earliest tribal history of Japan including cord pottery, pit homes, the Shinto creation story, rice farming, and the Yamato court. Next, in geography, learn about different types of mountains and how they are formed, where mountains are located throughout the world, and animals and people in the mountains. Then learn about the states of matter including solid, liquid, gas, and plasma and the properties of different substances in each of these states. Finally, line and shape are two of the fundamental elements of visual arts. In this unit you will learn how to recognize them, reproduce them, and understand how artists use them.
In each uni,t you’ll find a recommended library list, important background information about each topic, and lots of activities to choose from for kids of all ages. Sidebars include a bunch more ideas including Additional Layers, Fabulous Facts, On The Web, Writer’s Workshop, Famous Folks, and Teaching Tips. Printable maps and worksheets are included with each unit and may be printed as often as needed for your family or class.
