Layers of Learning Unit 2-18 starts by exploring the history of the native people of North America. We divide the history into cultural groups: Inuit, Woodland, Mississippian, Southwest, and Pacific Northwest. Then in geography, learn about the modern country of Canada and its culture and people. Next, study technology. You’ll learn about computers, robots, telephones, televisions, cell phones, radios, and infrared devices. In the arts section, read Native American tales, make dream catchers, create fetish necklaces, and learn more about Native American symbolism. There are lots of activities your whole family will enjoy doing together.
In each unit, you’ll find a recommended library list, important background information about each topic, and lots of activities to choose from for kids of all ages. Sidebars include a bunch more ideas including Additional Layers, Fabulous Facts, On The Web, Writer’s Workshop, Famous Folks, and Teaching Tips. Printable maps and worksheets are included with each unit and may be printed as often as needed for your family or class.
