Layers of Learning Unit 2-20 begins with explorers including Henry the Navigator, Columbus, Vasco da Gama, John Cabot, and Amerigo Vespucci. In Unit 3-1 we will carry on with even more explorers. Next, in geography, we’ll study the modern cultures and landscape of some of the islands in the Caribbean including a map of the whole region, and some closer looks at a few of the islands. Then experiment with solenoids, electromagnets, motors, and ion propulsion in the science section. Last, finish learning about Renaissance art, perspective, Pieter Brueghel, Botticelli, El Greco, Titian, and Correggio.
In each unit, you’ll find a recommended library list, important background information about each topic, and lots of activities to choose from for kids of all ages. Sidebars include a bunch more ideas including Additional Layers, Fabulous Facts, On The Web, Writer’s Workshop, Famous Folks, and Teaching Tips. Printable maps and worksheets are included with each unit and may be printed as often as needed for your family or class.
