Layers of Learning Unit 2-2 includes the history of the barbarian tribes of Europe. We include the great migrations that helped bring down Rome and filled the void after Rome was gone, the “dark ages” period of Europe, Germanic tribes, and the beginnings of Christianity in northern Europe. Next in geography learn all about the culture and landscape of Ireland, including a map, limericks, the legend of the claddagh ring, the blarney stone, and the puck fair. Then in science we continue with weather by learning about forecasting and weather measurement tools. Kids will set up a weather station with homemade instruments, learn about high and low pressure zones, prevailing winds, and how to read and create weather maps. Finally in art we’ll learn about illuminated books and manuscripts of the middle ages.
In each unit you’ll find a recommended library list, important background information about each topic, and lots of activities to choose from for kids of all ages.
